Founder’s Story

John’s journey with CrossFit began at the age of 13 in Kentucky, supported by his parents who ensured he always had a gym membership. At 17, he moved to Amelia Island and joined Sandbox Athletics, where Doug Lane helped refine his lifting skills. By 18, he was coaching at North Jax, trusted by Rowdy and Erika Felder to lead workouts. During his college years at UNF, he continued to improve alongside peers like David Ha, focusing on both lifting and technique. At Faith RXd, Tyler Biedleman became a significant role model, demonstrating excellence both in fitness and character. Training with Coach El at Brute Strength and attending athlete camps provided valuable insights into elite training methods. Five years ago, he joined Local Roots Fitness, where Luke and Erin Carter’s support and belief in him made a lasting impact. Three years ago, he met his now-fiancée at Local Roots Fitness. Her support has been instrumental as he embarked on the journey of owning Local Roots Fitness, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter both personally and professionally.
